This autumn our QA department visited our supplier of O18-water; Taiyo Nippon Sanso \u2013 The Gas Professionals \u2013 in Japan.<\/p>\n

In addition to a very few words Japanese, we learned that Taiyo Nippon Sanso enrich O18<\/sup>-water by using oxygen distillation, a patented process giving ultra-pure oxygen.<\/p>\n

At Norsk medisinsk syklotronsenter AS we utilize a cyclotron to irradiate the stable isotope O18<\/sup>, producing the radioactive isotope F18<\/sup>. This radioactive isotope is used to label target molecules in the production of radiopharmaceuticals. The radiopharmaceuticals are used by hospitals for medical imaging (PET scans) for the diagnosis of cancer and other diseases.<\/p>\n
